Don Goff, chair of Information and Telecommunications Studies in UMUC's Graduate School, and John Richardson marked the 20th anniversary of the antitrust settlement with AT&T with a talk entitled, "The Divestiture of AT&T: Past and Prologue," on January 8, 2002, at UMUC's Inn and Conference Center. Goff was chief of staff for Congressman J. E. Porter of Illinois and in 1983 was hired by AT&T as director of government affairs to implement the divestiture agreement, which he later wrote about in his doctoral dissertation. Richardson was director, board of telecommunications and computer applications, National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences, and had been chief scientist at NTIA.
